At Hotel Paris France we adore planning outings for those sunny, summer days, and what could be more relaxing than floating along on a boat as the sights of the city pass by? A cruise of the Old Paris on the Saint Martin canal takes in some of the most beautiful and historic parts of the city and is a delightful way to spend a few hours.
You can cruise from the Paris Arsenal Marina to Parc de la Villette, or you can choose to begin at the park. Cruises depart each day from May till September and the trip takes around 2 and a half hours. The cruise affords you a unique opportunity to hear histories of districts from a Parisian point of view, as you float along. Canal Saint Martin is lined with hundred year old trees, and its elegant footbridges are the perfect backdrop to this romantic journey.
Along the way you’ll discover such magical sights as the art show ‘Sounds of Light’ by Japanese artist Keiichi Tahara under the vault of the Bastille. You’ll pass through four double locks and two swing bridges as you experience the true atmosphere of Hotel du Nord.
After crossing the Bassin de la Villette and passing beneath the amazing Crimée drawbridge you’ll arrive at Parc de la Villette. Take time in the park to discover attractions such as the Geode, City of Music and City of Science amid beautiful themed gardens.
The cruise of the Old Paris will give you an insight into the romantic past of the canal. For those who’d like to learn even more about Paris in the past, a trip to Ile de la Cité is a must, and shows another facet of life on the city’s river and waterways.
At Hotel Paris France we’re always thinking of new ways to discover our wonderful city, whether it is from the water or on land. We’re happy to offer suggestions or give directions to Ile de la Cité or the departure points for a cruise of the Old Paris.
Discover the many attractions of Ile de la Cité
Spend the day exploring Ile de la Cité, where Sainte-Chapelle, Notre-Dame de Paris and the Conciergerie are among the many historic buildings to be seen. This exceptional district is one of only two natural islands that remain in the River Seine, and it is easy to reach from Hotel Paris France. As well as seeing some of the most iconic and notable buildings of Ile de la Cité you can take a look at the heart of Paris from a new perspective with a climb to the viewpoint on the two towers of Notre-Dame.
